Monu Micro Exfoliant Review

I’m a firm believer that daily exfoliation is essential for the skin, be that with a specific product or by using a firm hand with a soft flannel. Your face sheds skin just like the rest of your body, and dead skin can give you a grey and dull complexion. Daily exfoliation helps keep you looking fresh and radiant, but is essential that you use a gentle method. I have a pathological hatred of harsh exfoliators, you might feel like you’ve given your face a thorough scrub, but actually you’re ripping tiny tears in your skin that will cause no end of problems. From broken capillaries and redness, to sensitivities, blemishes and oiliness, over exfoliation is a real skin no no.

Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant is a real favourite of mine. The fine powder is really gentle but has enough power to leave your skin feeling soft and fresh. Initially I expected Monu’s Micro Exfoliant to be similar to this when I received it in the January Glossybox, however, I quickly realised that there were a few significant differences. Firstly, Monu Micro Exfoliant comes in a cream formula, with exceptionally finely-milled particles. If you’ve ever had microdermabrasion you’ll know how those tiny grains feel on your skin and I have to say, this is the first product at home product I’ve tried which actually replicated that feeling without causing any sensitivity.

Secondly and very importantly, Monu Micro Exfoliant is not a daily use product like the Dermalogica one. These tiny particles pack a real punch and only need to be used once or twice a week at the very most. Using it more often will strip your skin and may do more harm than good, as I’ve mentioned above. Mixing it with a little warm water makes it a little softer to apply, or if you feel your in need of a really thorough exfoliation, apply it to dry skin. Either way, use small circular motions, focusing on any patches of dry skin and ensuring you avoid the eye area. Be careful to make sure you don’t go too OTT, a quick one minute treatment will be plenty, you don’t need to feel like you’ve actually removed the whole top layer of your face!

Personally, although I don’t have sensitive skin, I did feel that this is probably to strong for regular use on my skin. I think a once a fortnight treatment would be plenty, but this is probably because I already exfoliate daily as I’ve mentioned. It didn’t leave my skin feeling sore but I did have a few minor blemish outbreaks and I think that was due to my skin overcompensating after being over exfoliated. If you don’t already regularly exfoliate though or you think you need to move to a more intensive treatment, I think Monu’s Micro Exfoliant would be a good product to try.

Let me know if you have tried this or any other Monu product’s, what did you think? What’s your favourite exfoliating product?
