Valentine’s Day is an ugly minefield most of the time, whether you’re couple up, happily single or signed up to every dating site in the world desperately searching for the next love of your life.
If you’ve got a partner, you have to agonise over whether to celebrate at all, what kind of gift to buy, how much to spend. Have you been together long enough to warrant a gift at all or will that make you look needy?! Do you go for a soppy card and risk getting one back that is more crude limerick than hopeless romantic?
What about if you’re single? Do you spend the day waiting for a big bunch of flowers from a gorgeous admirer, (it’s not happened before but there’s a first year for everything isn’t there?) only to go home and drown yourself in a tub of ice cream? Or do you just pretend that you’ve never heard of Valentine’s and put all thoughts of cupid outside your mind?
Stereotyping aside, we’re not a fan of Valentine’s at the moment because of all of the angst filled questions above. However we thought we’d pop some quick gift idea’s together for you. You can leave the browser open and hope your loved one gets the hint, or you could decide to spoil yourself – or even a friend, because friends should always come before a fella anyway!
These stylish and romantic Madame and Monsieur mugs are a great way to affirm your togetherness without being soppy.
£8 each, John Lewis

And if inspiration really has failed you, or you’ve left it a bit late (shocking), we admit it, we really do love a big bunch of flowers. We’d suggest the Dramatic Dozen instead! £44.99 Interflora
