Most of us have discovered the lifesaver that is dry shampoo. Something that our Grandmother’s used to do by shaking talc into their hair has been revamped, reformulated and decanted into aerosol canisters, and I for one am very grateful! Now if you’re running late you can just give your hair a quick freshen up, which is great if you don’t want to wash your hair so regularly either.
There’s only one problem; if you’re dark haired, you can run the risk of people thinking Halloween has come earlier or you’re suffering from premature greying locks. As most dry shampoo’s tend to use white powder it can be really difficult to blend them into darker hair. Having tried quite a lot of dry shampoo brands, I’m always drawn back to Batiste, my original favourite and they’ve sensibly come up with a helping hand for us brunettes and redheads. Their Hint of Colour range comes in brown, red and even a light yellow for blondes who don’t like the original white version.
I’d tried the brunette version when it was first released hoping that as it was darker it would work better on my dark red hair. However the colour match wasn’t great so I didn’t continue with it. So I might be a bit behind the times, but I was delighted when I saw they’d released a red version and promptly snapped up a bottle.
The first thing to note is that this red is quite bright when it comes out of the bottle, well actually it’s very bright! Don’t panic though once you’ve left it on for a minute to absorb and brushed it out thoroughly, you won’t look like a traffic light! As it’s quite difficult to avoid getting this around your hairline, I’d recommend using this before you do your makeup so you can wipe off any residue, otherwise you might get a few funny looks. You’ll also need to concentrate on brushing it out of your parting, otherwise you’ll end up with a very red looking scalp.
Once brushed out it left a slightly brighter shade of my usual colour and helped disguise the centimetre of roots I’m sporting at the moment! All in all I’m a convert, it gives a much more natural look – just avoid getting it on your clothes or any light-coloured furnishings!
You can buy Batiste from Superdrug, currently on offer at £1.95.
