I don’t have a thigh gap….so what?!! This stuff works miracles…

There are some things that are quite embarrassing to talk about, you know the stuff you’ll chat about with your close girlfriends but probably wouldn’t shout from your Facebook status? Well today we’re going to talk about chafing – there I’ve said it, cringe over! I am a size 14, with a traditional hourglass figure. I’ve got a smaller waist and bigger boobs and bum, and along with that bum comes the dreaded thighs. I say dreaded, I’m not actually that bothered by them, but socially apparently you’re not supposed to have them…

I don't care how many Barbie's there are - thighs are NOT supposed to be that far apart!

There is a lot of talk about the ideal being the “thigh gap”. Other than on Barbie dolls and anorexics, I’m not sure if this is actually humanly possible. For those of us that do have thighs that meet in the middle (I’m assuming about 90%?) then there can sometimes be some *ahem, discomfort. Cue last week when I was wearing a faux leather pencil skirt, in 32° heat running around London. Although I don’t like putting photos of myself on here, I’ve popped one up below, just so you can see that size 14 isn’t really gargantuan. However, in the right conditions, like I mentioned, boy the tops of your thighs can start to hurt.

Me, at a size 14 - not to hippo like I hope!

It’s not pretty, it’s not pleasant, and it’s probably uncouth to talk about it – but gosh it must happen to a lot of people! Now, you might wear Spanks or shorts under tight skirts if you’re over a size 10/12 and don’t want any friction (oh yes, I did use that word), but when it’s already boiling, do you really want any more layers on? Plus I come from the school of thought that Spanks were invented by the devil – nothing should constrict you that much!

So it was with that in mind that I popped into Boots the other day and picked up some Lanacane. I’ve seen the adverts and although I’ve always scoffed at the thought of it, the latest heatwave has left me with no choice, and do you know what? It’s bloody brilliant!! It’s a very smooth, silicone feeling balm/gel and you pop a tiny bit on the tops of your thighs to stop any redness or rubbing. It works instantly and because of the active ingredients, it reduces any marks or dry skin that might already be there.

The packaging is not pretty, but this stuff does the job!

This stuff is also great if you gym or swim regularly, or suffer from clothing that rubs. My friends little boy found the neck of his wet suit was giving him a rash, so I popped a little bit on and by the next day he was swimming about like a fish again!

Now for the really exciting part – Lanacane is a very affordable dupe of much more expensive makeup primers. A lot of the ingredients are similar to Smashbox’s much hailed primer, and I have to say you can really tell when you use it on your face. Essentially this is just silicone in a tube, as are most primers, which I don’t recommend using on your face every day as they can really clog your pores, however for special occasions where you need your makeup to stay on all day, you really can beat using Lanacane – honest, it’s the truth!

As it’s priced at around £6 and has so many uses, there will now be a tube of this in my handbag at all times – and I’ll try really hard not to die of embarrassment if it should fall out in front of a good looking man (please Lord do not let that happen!).

You can pick it up in Boots, Superdrug, most supermarkets and other retailers.
